HEROIC's threat intelligence team discovered a stealer log collection labeled 100_random that was shared on a Telegram channel in February 2024. This dataset exposes 2,591 records stolen from infected computers by credential-harvesting malware, leaving affected individuals vulnerable to fraud and identity theft.

Why Plaintext Passwords Are an Immediate Threat

All passwords in this breach appear in plaintext, giving attackers instant access without any need to crack or decrypt them. A plaintext password is the digital equivalent of leaving your house key under the doormat. Threat actors can log in to compromised accounts within minutes of obtaining these credentials, often before the victim even knows they have been exposed.

What Was Exposed

  • Email addresses tied to online accounts
  • Plaintext passwords stolen directly from browsers
  • URLs revealing which websites and services were accessed

The Credential Stuffing Risk From Reused Passwords

When attackers obtain a working email-and-password combination, they do not stop at one website. Automated credential stuffing tools test stolen pairs across thousands of services simultaneously. Since many people reuse passwords, a single compromised login from the 100_random collection could grant access to email inboxes, social media accounts, financial services, and more.

How Stealer Log Malware Harvests Your Data

Stealer logs are generated by a category of malware known as infostealers. These programs infiltrate devices through deceptive downloads, email attachments, or compromised websites. Once installed, they silently capture saved passwords, browser cookies, and autofill data, then exfiltrate everything to command-and-control servers. The stolen data is eventually compiled into log packages like 100_random and sold or freely distributed on underground channels.
