HEROIC analysts uncovered a stealer log file uploaded to Telegram in March 2023, attributed to the actor known as 800PCS zet_cloud. The dataset exposed 9,384 records gathered by infostealer malware running on compromised endpoints, capturing email addresses, plaintext passwords, and the URLs of sites each victim was authenticated to at the time of infection. This log was distributed within underground Telegram data-sharing channels before being added to the HEROIC breach index.

Why This Is Dangerous

Unlike older data dumps where passwords may be outdated, stealer logs capture credentials in real time from active sessions. The 9,384 records in this dataset include plaintext passwords that were likely still in active use at the time of capture. Attackers who access this data can immediately attempt to log in to email, banking, e-commerce, and social media accounts. The accompanying URLs also reveal which specific sites each victim was using, giving attackers a roadmap for targeted account takeover with minimal guesswork.

What Was Exposed

  • Email Addresses
  • Plaintext Passwords
  • URLs (authenticated session endpoints from infected devices)

Why This Matters

Plaintext passwords paired with email addresses are the most immediately exploitable combination in any breach. Attackers use automated credential stuffing tools to test these pairs against thousands of websites in minutes. Victims who reuse passwords across services face account takeover on every platform where the same credentials were used. Beyond direct account access, stolen email access enables attackers to reset passwords on linked accounts, leading to cascading identity theft and potential financial fraud.

How Stealer Logs Work

Stealer logs are generated by infostealer malware programs that silently infiltrate devices through phishing links, cracked software downloads, and malicious browser extensions. Once active, the malware scrapes saved browser passwords, autofill data, active session cookies, and browsing history from infected machines. All harvested data is compiled into structured log files and transmitted to attacker-controlled servers. These logs are then packaged and distributed through private Telegram channels, dark web forums, and marketplaces, where they are sold or shared freely among cybercriminals of all skill levels.
