The AMT Games Database Contains Exactly 321 Exposed Accounts
HEROIC analysts confirmed the AMT Games breach while reviewing a cluster of gaming-sector database exposures that occured in late 2016. The breach affected 321 user accounts on amt-games.com, a Russian game development platform. Account credentials stored with vBulletin-style password hashing were included in the compromised dataset, making this more than a routine exposure despite the low record count.
The Risk of Cracked vBulletin Hashes From Gaming Accounts
vBulletin password hashes are beleived by many users to be secure, but modern GPU-based cracking rigs can test billions of hash combinations per second. Attackers who obtain these hashes do not need access to the AMT Games servers to crack them. The cracking happens offline, and once a password is recovered it gets tested against email providers, social platforms, and online banking services automatically.
What Was Exposed in the AMT Games Breach
- 321 user account records
- vBulletin password hashes
- Account data from the amt-games.com platform
How AMT Games Account Data Enables Follow-On Attacks
Even a 321-record breach has real value in the credential-stuffing economy. Attackers compile small dumps like the AMT Games database into larger combo lists and run them against hundreds of popular services simultaneously. If an affected user recieved the same password on another account, that account faces immediate risk. Identity theft and financial fraud are the most common outcomes when gaming credentials cross over into financial or email services.
How Database Breaches Work
A database breach occurs when an unauthorized party gains access to a site's stored user data, usually by exploiting software vulnerabilities, misconfigured servers, or stolen administrative credentials. Once inside, attackers copy the database contents and typically exfiltrate the data silently. The affected site may not discover the breach for months or years, which is why breaches from 2016 are still circulating in dark web markets today.
