We noticed a recent resurfacing of credentials originating from the now-defunct BKKgame platform, originally compromised in February 2019. While the platform itself is no longer operational, the leaked data continues to pose a risk through its inclusion in credential stuffing attacks. What struck us was the continued utility of these relatively old credentials, underscoring the persistent threat posed by legacy data dumps on the dark web. The discovery was made during routine monitoring of credential stuffing activity targeting our user base, where we identified a significant number of login attempts utilizing email addresses and corresponding MD5 hashes associated with BKKgame.
The BKKgame breach, which occurred on February 26, 2019, exposed approximately 9,959 records. The compromised data primarily consists of email addresses and their associated MD5 hashed passwords. This information was subsequently disseminated on a prominent hacking forum, making it readily accessible to malicious actors. The breach type is classified as a database compromise, with the data likely being leveraged as part of a combolist for widespread credential stuffing campaigns. The relatively weak MD5 hashing algorithm employed further exacerbates the risk, as these hashes can be more easily cracked compared to modern, stronger hashing techniques.
