In August 2024, a Telegram user posted a stealer log file containing 25,437 records from compromised endpoints in the United States. The dataset, identified as BurnCloudLogs, included plaintext passwords and email addresses alongside associated URLs, making it immediately exploitable by anyone who came across it. This wasn't a sophisticated corporate hack, it was the output of commodity malware running silently on thousands of ordinary devices, and the results were dropped into a public Telegram channel for anyone to grab.

Why This Is Dangerous


With over 25,000 records exposed, this is one of the larger stealer log dumps in the BurnCloudLogs series. The real danger isn't just the volume, it's the type of data. These credentials were captured live from infected devices, not pulled from an old database backup. That means every email and password pair in this file was almost certainly valid and in active use when it was stolen.

Plaintext passwords remove every layer of protection that might otherwise slow down an attacker. There's no hash to crack, no encoding to reverse. The credentials are ready to use the moment someone opens the file, and Telegram makes it trivially easy to distribute that file to thousands of people at once.

The URLs included in each record point attackers directly at specific services and platforms. Rather than guessing where a victim has accounts, the log file bascially hands them a map. That's what makes stealer logs so much more dangerous than typical leaked databases.

There's no barrier to entry, no purchase required, and no verification needed. Anyone who saw the post could download and use the data immediately.

How Stealer Log Works


Stealer malware usually arrives on a device through a phishing email, a fake software download, or a malicious browser add-on. Once installed, it works silently in the background, scanning saved browser credentials, capturing keystrokes as passwords are typed, and pulling any autofill data it can adress from the system.

The collected data is compiled into a structured log file and automatically sent back to the attacker's server. From there, it gets bundled with other logs from the same campaign and either sold, traded, or posted publicly. The BurnCloudLogs dumps appear to be the latter, shared openly to build reputation or cause widespread disruption.

What's particularly frustrating about this attack vector is that it bypasses most traditional security measures. The malware captures passwords before encryption kicks in, so even users who only visit HTTPS sites and beleive they're protected can still have their credentials stolen this way.
