HEROIC analysts monitoring Telegram-based stealer log distribution channels identified a credential package in July 2025 distributed under the name CaptainBayOwner 505count. The archive contained 29,437 compromised records harvested from infected machines across the United States. Each record included an email address, a plaintext password, and the URL of the specific service where those credentials were actively in use when the device was infected. The package was traded on Telegram channels frequented by threat actors seeking ready-to-use credential sets.

Why the CaptainBayOwner Dump Is an Immediate Threat

Most credential attacks require extra work: cracking hashed passwords, identifying which services the victim uses, or guessing login fields. The CaptainBayOwner dataset eliminates all of that. It pairs each email with a plaintext password and the exact service URL where that credential was captured. Attackers do not need to crack anything. They have 29,437 direct attack vectors, each preloaded with a target address, a working password, and the destination site.

What Was Exposed

  • Email Addresses
  • Plaintext Passwords
  • Service URLs (exact sites where credentials were captured at time of infection)

Why This Matters

Stealer log data like this powers multiple categories of cybercrime that hit real people:

  • Credential stuffing: Automated tools test each email and password pair across hundreds of other services beyond those already in the log.
  • Account takeover: Attackers lock victims out by changing passwords and recovery addresses the moment they get in.
  • Identity theft: Email access unlocks password resets on financial, medical, and government accounts.
  • Financial fraud: Payment and banking URLs captured at infection time give attackers a direct path into financial accounts.

How Stealer Log Distribution Works on Telegram

Telegram has become the primary dark web adjacent marketplace for stealer logs. It offers large anonymous channels, minimal content moderation, and fast peer-to-peer distribution. Operators who run infostealer malware campaigns package harvested credentials and post them to private paid channels, or release them publicly to build criminal reputation. Naming conventions like CaptainBayOwner 505count typically reference the operator's Telegram handle and the batch count of infected machines. Once posted, copies spread to dozens of other channels within hours, multiplying the number of actors who have access.
