On May 24, 2026, a file going by the name CartelJohnDoe started circulating in a Telegram channel wich specializes in trading stolen credentials. Inside were 20,044 records, each one a small window into somebody's digital life: an email address, a password sitting in plain view, and the website URL it belonged to. It's not the biggest breach HEROIC has tracked this year, but the people behind those 20,044 lines don't get to feel relieved just because the number is small.

Why This Is Dangerous

What makes a stealer log like this one so unsettling is the combination of data. You're not just getting a leaked email, you're getting the exact password that unlocks it, plus the site it was used on. That's a ready-made key, already cut, sitting in a criminal's downloads folder. There's no guessing involved, no brute-forcing required. Anyone who grabs this file can log in and look around immediately.

What Was Exposed

  • Email addresses tied to real user accounts
  • Passwords stored and leaked in plaintext, not hashed
  • URLs showing exactly which sites the credentials unlock

Why This Matters

Most people asume a small leak like this one isn't worth worrying about, but that's exactly the wrong takeaway. Stealer logs are frequently pulled from computers that also have banking portals, email accounts, and work logins saved in the browser. If any of these 20,044 credentials get reused elsewhere, a single infected laptop can turn into a cascade of compromised accounts across a person's entire online life.

How Stealer Logs Work

These files are built by malware that quietly installs itself on a victim's machine, often riding along with a cracked program, a pirated game, or a fake software update. Once running, it digs through the browser's saved password vault, autofill data, and active session cookies, then quietly ships everything back to the attacker's server. From there it gets packaged, labeled with a name like CartelJohnDoe, and dropped into a Telegram channel for other criminals to buy or download for free.
