Records Exposed 94
Source Type Stealer log
Origin United States
Password Type plaintext

HEROIC identified a stealer log file titled CenturyLink Good shared on Telegram containing 94 compromised user records. Despite the modest size, each record includes a plaintext password paired with the email address and URL where it was used, providing everything an attacker needs for immediate account access.

The Problem with Exposed Plaintext Passwords

Plaintext passwords require zero effort to exploit. Unlike hashed credentials that need computational work to crack, these passwords are instantly usable. An attacker who obtains a plaintext password can log in to the associated account within seconds, and from there pivot to any other service sharing the same login details.

What Was Exposed

  • Email addresses linked to CenturyLink services
  • Plaintext passwords captured from web browsers
  • URLs of login pages where the credentials were entered

How Credential Stuffing Turns One Password into Many Breaches

Attackers feed stolen email-and-password pairs into automated tools that test them against banking portals, streaming platforms, shopping sites, and more. When people reuse passwords, even a dump of just 94 records can yield dozens of additional compromised accounts across unrelated services.

Understanding Stealer Logs and Infostealer Malware

This data was collected by infostealer malware running silently on infected computers. These programs extract saved passwords from browsers, record keystrokes, and grab session cookies. The harvested data is bundled into stealer logs and sold or shared on channels like Telegram, often without the victims ever knowing they were compromised.
