HEROIC analysts identified the Peoples Republic of China Lawyers database breach during a review of officially linked Chinese domains circulating on underground data markets. The platform, lawyers.org.cn, serves as a directory and registry for licensed legal professionals in China. The breach occured in August 2016 and exposed 14,721 user records. What makes this breach particularly alarming is that passwords were stored in plaintext, meaning they were not hashed or encrypted in any way. Any attacker who downloaded this database recieved every user's exact, original password immediately, with no cracking required.
