The Craftboard Breach Happened in 2021. The 26K Player Records Just Resurfaced.
HEROIC analysts identified the Craftboard database while reviewing aggregated credential dumps circulating in dark web forums. The breach occured in January 2021 and exposed 26,452 records from Craftboard, a Polish gaming community platform. The leaked data included email addresses, usernames, MD5 password hashes, IP addresses, and birthdates belonging to community members.
Birthdates and Cracked MD5 Passwords Make Craftboard Records High-Value for Fraud
When attackers combine birthdates with email addresses and cracked passwords, the resulting profile is accessable to a wide range of fraud scenarios. Identity verification systems at banks, government portals, and healthcare platforms often use birthdate as a secondary factor. An attacker who cracks the MD5 hashes and pairs them with birthdates can bypass these checks and take over accounts well beyond the original gaming platform.

Why Craftboard's 2021 Breach Still Threatens Users Today
Breach data does not lose value over time. Credential stuffing tools recieved new lists constantly, and a 26,452-record set with birthdates is considered premium material for identity fraud. Users who registered on Craftboard with the same email and password they use elsewhere remain at risk of account takeover across email, social media, and financial services. Birthdates also enable attackers to answer security questions and defeat knowledge-based authentication.
How a Database Breach Works
A database breach occurs when an unauthorized party extracts records from a backend data store. Common entry points include SQL injection vulnerabilities in web applications, exposed database management ports with weak credentials, or compromise of server infrastructure through phishing or unpatched software. The attacker then exports user tables and distributes or sells the data through private channels and public forums.
