4,192 Plaintext Passwords From CRYPTON_LOGS 2 Surfaced on Telegram
In April 2023, HEROIC analysts identified a second stealer log release from the same operator, distributed on Telegram under the name CRYPTON_LOGS 2, that exposed 4,192 records. The dataset contained credentials harvested by infostealer malware from compromised endpoints, including email addresses, plaintext passwords, and the URLs of every service from which those credentials were stolen. The release followed closely behind the original CRYPTON_LOGS dump, suggesting an active threat actor with ongoing access to infected device data.
Why CRYPTON_LOGS 2 Is a Serious Threat
The 4,192 records in CRYPTON_LOGS 2 are definately not just numbers. Each one represents a real person whose device was silently compromised and whose login credentials are now in the hands of criminal buyers. Because every record includes a plaintext password paired with the exact URL where it was captured, attackers do not need to perform any additional steps before attempting account takeover. Financial platforms, email services, and enterprise portals captured in the log face immediate, targeted attack attempts the moment this data is put to use.
What Was Exposed
- Email Addresses
- Plaintext Passwords
- URLs (service-specific credential context for each victim)
Why This Matters
Stealer log data enables a cascade of downstream compromises. Attackers who gain email access through credential stuffing can reset passwords on banking, social media, and e-commerce accounts, effectively taking over a victim's entire digital presence. Victims rarely recieve a warning before this occurs. Password reuse across services multiplies the damage. Identity theft and financial fraud are common outcomes, and the harm can persist for months after the original compromise occured if the victim never learns their credentials were included in a dataset like CRYPTON_LOGS 2.
How Stealer Log Breaches Work
Infostealer malware is typically installed on a victim's machine through a phishing email attachment, a trojanized game or software crack, or a malicious browser extension. Once running, it harvests all passwords saved in the device's web browsers, captures the URLs associated with each credential, and records active session cookies that allow attackers to bypass two-factor authentication. The collected data is packaged into a structured log file and uploaded to attacker-controlled infrastructure. Telegram channels are widely used for distributing these logs because they allow criminal sellers to reach buyers anonymously and at scale. CRYPTON_LOGS 2 was distributed through this channel in April 2023, just days after the first CRYPTON_LOGS release.
Check If You Were Affected
HEROIC's free breach scanner searches more than 400 billion compromised records, including both CRYPTON_LOGS releases and thousands of other stealer log and database breach datasets. If your email or password appeared in CRYPTON_LOGS 2, changing passwords and revoking active sessions immediately can stop attackers from moving further.
