On December 12, 2024, HEROIC's dark web monitoring surfaced a database leak from Daimsr Nagpur at daimsr.edu.in, the Dr. Ambedkar Institute of Management Studies and Research in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The breach exposed 133 unique records, including email addresses, first names, last names, and phone numbers. Only 133 people, but for each of them the exposure is intensely personal.

Why This Breach Is Dangerous

Small leaks from a specific institution are perfect tools for precision scams. Fraudsters can call each number, address the victim by name, and reference the college by name to build instant trust. The limited volume is a feature for attackers, not a flaw. Every record is high-confidence and ready for manual abuse.

What Was Exposed in Daimsr Nagpur

  • Email addresses
  • First names
  • Last names
  • Phone numbers

Why This Matters

Indian students and alumni are frequent targets of employment fraud, fake scholarship scams, and UPI phishing. When criminals hold a verified shortlist of names, phone numbers, and college affiliation, the per-victim hit rate skyrockets compared to broad spam campaigns. The quiet size of this leak does not reflect the volume of damage each entry can cause.

How Database Breaches Work

Educational institution sites often run outdated CMS platforms with exposed admin panels, weak passwords, and unpatched plugins. Attackers enumerate these vulnerabilities, gain database access, and dump user tables. The stolen data gets posted on data leak forums or private Telegram channels where fraud rings specializing in Indian students purchase it for targeted campaigns.
