In April 2023, HEROIC analysts identified a stealer log file distributed freely through a Telegram channel operating under the ThorLogs Cloud name. The release, titled Free Logs 2, exposed 4,097 records containing email addresses, plaintext passwords, and the URLs of the exact sites where those credentials were used. HEROIC's dark web monitoring team flagged this release as part of our ongoing surveillance of criminal distribution channels, where operators post free credential batches to build subscriber counts and reputation within their networks. The data was made publicly available at no cost, meaning anyone with a Telegram account could download and use it immediately.

Why This Is Dangerous

When threat actors distribute stealer logs for free, the risk to victims multiplies significantly. Paid log sales are at least somewhat limited by who can afford them. Free releases are available to anyone subscribed to the channel, meaning the same set of credentials can be downloaded and used by hundreds of different attackers simultaneously.

The data in this release includes plaintext passwords, which require no cracking or decryption. Combined with the associated URLs, each record in the ThorLogs Cloud Free Logs 2 dump is essentially a ready-to-use login. The fact that ThorLogs positioned this as a free release suggests the goal was distribution and visibility rather than direct profit, which makes the exposure broader and harder to contain. If you recieve any alert suggesting your email appeared in this breach, the threat is real and immediate.

What Was Exposed

  • Email addresses linked to active online accounts
  • Plaintext passwords (unencrypted, immediately usable by any downloader)
  • URLs identifying the exact websites tied to each stolen credential
  • Endpoint metadata from infected machines that generated the logs

Why This Matters

Credential stuffing is the first and most common attack that follows a stealer log release. Automated tools allow attackers to test thousands of email and password combinations against popular services in minutes. Because a large percentage of people reuse passwords, a single exposed credential can unlock banking portals, email accounts, social media profiles, and shopping platforms simultaneously.

Account takeover follows quickly when email access is gained. An attacker with control of your inbox can reset passwords on every connected service, locking you out of your own accounts. Financial fraud can begin within hours of a takeover. In more targeted cases, the stolen data leads to identity theft, particularly if the URLs in the log point to financial institutions or government service portals. The free distribution model means this data was likely used by multiple threat actors before HEROIC's analysts identifed and cataloged it.

How Stealer Log Channels Work

ThorLogs Cloud is a Telegram-based distribution channel for infostealer output. Dark web intelligence operations like HEROIC's monitor these channels because they represent an active, real-time pipeline of stolen credentials flowing from infected devices into criminal hands. Operators post free samples like this one to attract subscribers and establish credibility before offering premium or paid content.

The underlying data comes from infostealer malware, which infects devices through phishing links, fake software installers, and malicious browser extensions. Once active on a device, the infostealer harvests saved passwords and session cookies from the browser, then transmits everything back to the attacker. Victims typically notice nothing until suspicious account activity occured days or weeks later. By that point, the credentials have often already been downloaded and tested by multiple actors.
