South African School System Eazyman Leaks 4,176 Staff and Student Records
HEROIC DarkHive identified a breach of Eazyman, a South African school management system, on 29 November 2024. The database compromise exposed 4,176 user records containing email addresses, phone numbers, first and last names, birthdays, and bcrypt hashed passwords.
Why This School Platform Breach Is Dangerous
Education sector leaks are especially damaging because the victim pool includes minors. A birthday combined with a full name and working email is everything a scammer needs to impersonate a parent, open a fraudulent account, or satisfy knowledge based verification on government services.
What Was Exposed in Eazyman
The 4,176 records include email address, phone number, first name, last name, birthday, and bcrypt password hash. Bcrypt slows cracking, but simple passwords still fall, and the non password fields by themselves support convincing phishing against both parents and staff.
Why This Matters
School management platforms store the attendance, grade, and discipline histories of thousands of students. Once attackers control a teacher or admin account, they can alter records, extract more sensitive reports, or use the compromised account to launch phishing inside the school community.
How Database Breaches Happen
School system breaches often trace to outdated PHP applications, exposed admin panels without multi factor authentication, or credentials stolen from a teacher laptop via infostealer malware. Once inside, attackers export the user table and post it on forums aimed at the African region.
Check If You Are Affected
HEROIC monitors over 400 billion compromised records across the surface, deep, and dark web. Run a free scan to see whether your email or phone number appears in the Eazyman leak, then reset the password anywhere it was reused and enable SMS plus app based multi factor authentication on parent portals and email.
