FortunaCloud Stealer Log: 5,340 Records Quietly Surfaced on Telegram

In July 2023, HEROIC analysts detected a stealer log file uploaded to Telegram by an anonymous user identifying as FortunaCloud. The file contained 5,340 records harvested from infected devices, each entry including an email address, a plaintext password, and the URL of a service the victim had been actively using. There was no announcement, no media coverage, and no notification sent to anyone whose data was included. It simply appeared, and it has been accesible ever since.

Why Quietly Leaked Data Is Often the Most Dangerous Kind

High-profile breaches make headlines and prompt password resets. Stealer logs like this one do not. Because the FortunaCloud file circulated on Telegram without public attention, the 5,340 people whose credentials were included likely had no reason to change their passwords. That means many of those login combinations are still active today. Attackers who obtained this file have had months to test credentials against banking sites, email providers, and corporate portals without any urgency from victims to respond.

What Was Exposed in the FortunaCloud Stealer Log

  • Email addresses
  • Plaintext passwords
  • URLs (active session endpoints and services the victims were logged into)

Why This Matters: Credential Stuffing and Account Takeover at Scale

Every record in this file represents a real person whose login to a real service was captured without their knowledge. Attackers use tools that can automatically test thousands of these credential pairs against popular platforms in minutes. This is called credential stuffing, and it is one of the most widley used attack methods today because it requires no hacking skill, just a working list of email and password combinations.

When a match is found, the attacker gains instant access. From there, they can steal stored payment information, take over linked accounts, impersonate the victim in phishing attacks against their contacts, or sell access to other criminals. The URL data in this log makes the attack even more targeted, because it shows attackers exactly which services each victim uses.

How a Stealer Log Like FortunaCloud Gets Created

Infostealer malware is the engine behind logs like this one. It infects a device silently, usually through a phishing link, a malicious software download, or a compromised browser extension. Once running, it extracts saved passwords, session cookies, and browsing history from the victim's browser and packages everything into a structured log file.

That file is then either sold privately, posted in criminal forums, or uploaded to Telegram channels where it becomes freely available. The victim is never notified that this occured. They continue using their compromised credentials while attackers work through the list. The malware itself may also remain on the device long after the log was created, continuing to harvest new credentials as the victim logs into additional services. This is a definately understated risk that most users never consider.
