In November 2023, HEROIC analysts identified a stealer log file labeled GODELESS CLOUD that was uploaded to a public Telegram channel by an anonymous user. The file contained 7,479 records exposing email addresses, plaintext passwords, and URLs harvested from infected endpoints. Because the data was posted on a public platform, it was accessable to any criminal monitoring those channels, giving attackers an immediate pool of usable credentials targeting real victims.

Why This Is Dangerous

Stealer logs are generated by malware that runs silently on a victim's device, recording every login and website visit without any visible sign of infection. The GODELESS CLOUD file is especially concerning because the passwords it contains are in plaintext, meaning there is no encryption barrier between the attacker and the stolen credentials. Whoever downloaded this file could begin attempting logins within minutes of obtaining it, targeting each victim's email, banking, and social media accounts in sequence.

What Was Exposed

  • Email Addresses
  • Plaintext Passwords
  • URLs (websites and services accessed by victims at the time of infection)

Why This Matters

The 7,479 records in this leak represent real people who were targeted by malware and did not know their credentials were being harvested. With plaintext passwords exposed, attackers do not need to crack anything. They can run the stolen email and password pairs against bank portals, email providers, and e-commerce sites in automated attacks called credential stuffing. The URLs in the log tell attackers exactly which services each victim was using, letting them prioritize the most valuable accounts to target first. If you reuse passwords across services, a single entry in this log could unlock multiple accounts.

How Stealer Log Breaches Work

Infostealer malware typically reaches victims through a fake software download, a malicious email attachment, or a drive-by download from a compromised website. Once installed, it runs quietly in the background and records keystrokes, steals saved browser passwords, and captures session cookies. That data is compiled into a log file and sent to the attacker's server. The attacker then either sells the log on a dark web marketplace or uploads it to Telegram, where other criminals can download and use the credentials. The entire process from infection to public exposure can occure in a matter of hours, long before the victim notices anything wrong.
