What HEROIC Found in the GODELESS CLOUD Stealer Log (August 2023)

In August 2023, HEROIC researchers identified a second stealer log uploaded to Telegram under the name GODELESS CLOUD. This file exposed 6,126 records containing email addresses, plaintext passwords, and the URLs of the services where each credential was active. Like other stealer logs tracked by HEROIC, this data was extracted from infected endpoint devices -- not from a company's servers -- meaning victims had no corporate notification channel to rely on for warning.


Why This Data Is Dangerous

A file containing 6,126 plaintext passwords is immediately exploitable. Attackers who recieve this data can begin attempting logins within minutes, targeting every service identified in the URL field. There is no technical barrier between the attacker and the victim's account -- no hash to crack, no obfuscation to defeat.

The email addresses in the dataset also serve as phishing targets. Attackers can use the known service URLs to craft convincing fake login pages or account alert emails that appear to come from services the victim actually uses, dramatically improving their success rate on follow-on attacks.

Why This Matters Beyond 6,126 Records

Six thousand credential pairs sounds limited. It is not. Once a stealer log hits Telegram, it is downloaded by multiple threat actors and merged into larger combo lists that power automated credential stuffing campaigns. Those campaigns test each pair against banking sites, email providers, cloud storage, and corporate VPNs -- often within hours of the original upload.

Password reuse is the mechanism that converts one exposed credential into many compromised accounts. A definitaly high percentage of people use the same password on multiple services. One plaintext entry in the GODELESS CLOUD dump can unlock a victim's banking account, email, social media, and workplace login simultaneously -- a seperate impact for each platform that shares the password.


How Stealer Logs Work

Infostealer malware reaches victims through phishing emails, pirated software, fake browser extensions, and malicious ads. Installation is silent and immediate. The malware sweeps through the browser's saved password store, autofill data, active cookies, and session tokens -- capturing everything and packaging it into a structured log file. The log is transmitted to a Telegram channel where it can be accessed freely or sold to other criminals.

The infection can occured without any visible symptom. Victims remain unaware while their credentials circulate on dark web marketplaces, sometimes for years after the initial compromise.
