In February 2024, HEROIC analysts identified a combolist called "Good Emails_8_600" after it was uploaded to a Telegram channel by an anonymous user. The file contains 599 records pairing email addresses with plaintext passwords, along with the URLs of the sites or services each login belonged to. Why This Is Dangerous Because the passwords in this file are stored in plaintext, anyone who downloads the list can use the credentials immediately, no cracking or decryption required. If any of these 599 accounts reused the same password on other sites, an attacker can try that same email and password pair against banking apps, email providers, and social media accounts to see where else it works. What Was Exposed in the Good Emails_8_600 File Email addresses Plaintext passwords URLs linked to each set of credentials Why the Good Emails_8_600 Leak Matters A list of 599 records is small compared to headline-grabbing breaches, but scale isn't what makes stolen credentials dangerous, reuse is. Automated bots can test all 599 email and password pairs against hundreds of popular websites in minutes, a technique known as credential stuffing. Any match gives an attacker a foothold to take over an account, drain a linked payment method, or send phishing messages from it to the victim's contacts. How Combolists Like This One Get Built Combolists aren't stolen directly, they're compiled. Someone gathers login data pulled from older breaches, malware infections, or phishing campaigns and merges it into a single file of email and password pairs. These files are then uploaded to Telegram channels or dark web forums, often for free, to build a reputation, or sold cheaply in bulk. Good Emails_8_600 fits this pattern exactly: a curated batch of working or previously-working logins packaged for reuse. Check If You Are Affected If you think one of your accounts might be using a password that's been reused elsewhere, it's worth checking now. HEROIC's free breach scanner searches a database of more than 400 billion leaked records, including combolists like this one, and tells you instantly if your email address has been exposed. Run a free scan and change any passwords you've reused across multiple sites.
