HEROIC analysts discovered a stealer log file uploaded to Telegram on December 25, 2023, originating from an anonymous user distributing data under the HelloKittyCloud 1542 identifier. The log contained 47,386 records harvested from compromised endpoints, each entry pairing an email address with a plaintext password and one or more associated URLs. The timing of the upload, on a major holiday when security teams are typically understaffed, is consistent with a pattern that threat actors deliberately exploit to maximize the window before detection and response. HEROIC analysts flagged this incident through automated monitoring and added it to the breach intelligence database for ongoing tracking.

Why This Is Dangerous

Infostealer malware is dangerous precisely because it operates below the radar of most antivirus and endpoint detection tools until after the damage is done. By the time a log like HelloKittyCloud 1542 appears on Telegram, the malware has already done its work on every affected machine. Attackers who obtain this log gain immediate access to 47,386 sets of working credentials, complete with the URLs those credentials belong to. They do not need to guess, crack, or phish. The credentials are ready to use. Every account where a victim reused that password across other sites is equally exposed, multiplying the real-world impact far beyond the original 47,386 records.

What Was Exposed

  • Email Addresses
  • Plaintext Passwords
  • URLs (including API host and login endpoints)

Why This Matters

Credential theft from infostealer logs feeds directly into the most common attack chains in modern cybercrime. Credential stuffing uses stolen username-password pairs to automate login attempts across hundreds of platforms simultaneously. Account takeover follows when those attempts succeed, locking victims out of their own email, banking, and social accounts. Identity theft becomes viable when enough personal context is assembled from multiple compromised services. Financial fraud is a natural endpoint when payment credentials or banking session cookies are captured alongside passwords. The plaintext nature of the passwords in this log means there is no decryption step, no delay. An attacker can begin acting on this data the moment they download the file from Telegram.

How Infostealer Malware Works

Infostealer malware, also called a credential stealer or info stealer, is a category of malicious software specifically designed to harvest login credentials and sensitive data from infected endpoints. Variants like RedLine, Vidar, and Raccoon Stealer are among the most widely distributed examples. They are typically delivered through phishing emails with malicious attachments, fake software cracks distributed on file-sharing sites, or malvertising campaigns that redirect users to drive-by download pages. Once installed, the malware scans browser password stores, autofill databases, session cookies, and application credential files. It packages the occured captures into a structured log and transmits them back to the attacker. The resulting stealer logs are then sold or shared in bulk on underground forums and Telegram channels, often within hours of the initial infections.
