HEROIC Analysts Discover LogVault Leak Exposing 6,959 Records
In November 2023, a user on Telegram quietly dropped a stealer log file tied to a source labeled LogVault_Cloud 13Private, and inside it were 6,959 records worth of stolen login data. HEROIC's threat intelligence team flagged the dump as part of ongoing monitoring of dark web marketplaces and private Telegram channels that traffic in exactly this kind of stolen information.
Why This Is Dangerous
Stealer logs are different from a typical corporate data breach. Instead of one company losing control of its database, a stealer log is built from malware that infects a person's own device and quietly copies whatever is sitting in their browser: saved passwords, autofill fields, and session cookies. That means the 6,959 records in this leak likely span dozens of unrelated websites, not just one. If you recieve most of your logins through saved browser passwords, this is the exact scenario that puts you at risk.
What Was Exposed
- 6,959 total records
- Email addresses
- Plaintext passwords
- URLs tied to each account
Why This Matters
Because the passwords in this file are stored in plaintext, anyone who gets a copy of the dump doesn't need to crack or decrypt anything, they can just read the credentials and start logging in. Combined with the associated URLs, an attacker gets a ready-made map of which site each password unlocks, which makes credential stuffing and account takeover much faster than a random leak of usernames alone.
How Stealer Logs Work
A stealer log is generated by info-stealing malware, malicious software that hides on a victim's computer after they click a bad link, download a cracked program, or open an infected attachment. Once it is running, the malware searches the browser's saved password manager and grabs everything stored there before sending it back to the attacker automatically. This whole process can happen in under a minute without the victim ever noticing anything occured on their machine.
Check If You Are Affected
You do not have to guess whether your information showed up in this leak or one of the thousands like it. HEROIC runs a free breach scanner that checks your email address against a database of more than 400 billion compromised records, including stealer logs like this one. It only takes a minute to check, and if something turns up, you will definately want to change that password right away.
