HEROIC analysts identified a stealer log dump labeled "hits_imap," uploaded to a Telegram channel on 11-Jul-2026. The file contained 494 records, including email addresses, plaintext passwords, and the URLs of the sites where those logins were captured.

Why the Hits_imap Leak's Timing Is Dangerous

The credentials in this log were harvested before the file ever reached Telegram, meaning the passwords could already be out of date by the time they surface publicly, or they could still be in active use. Either way, once this data lands in a criminal's hands, they can move immediately to log into the accounts it lists, since the passwords are stored in plaintext and paired with the exact site each one belongs to.

What Was Exposed

  • Email addresses
  • Plaintext passwords
  • URLs of the websites tied to each login

Why This Matters

Because the passwords are unencrypted and mapped to specific websites, this data is ready for immediate account takeover on any service where the credentials still work. If any of these passwords were reused across email, banking, or shopping accounts, attackers can also try credential stuffing to break into those accounts.

How Stealer Logs Work

Stealer log malware infects a device, often through a fake download or malicious attachment, and quietly collects saved passwords, autofill entries, and browser session data as they are typed. That data is packaged into a log file and posted to Telegram channels or dark web forums, sometimes days or weeks after it was originally harvested, giving victims little warning before their credentials are traded.
