What HEROIC Analysts Found

On 02-May-2026, HEROIC's dark web monitoring team flagged a stealer log file uploaded directly to a Telegram channel, cataloged as "hotmail 1 uploaded by a Telegram User." The file contained 87 individual records harvested from malware-infected computers, each pairing an email address with a plaintext password and the web address (URL) where that login was captured.

Why This Hotmail Stealer Log Is Dangerous

Stealer logs like this one are especially risky because the passwords inside are not hashed or encrypted, they are stored in plaintext, exactly as the victim typed them. Combined with the URL of the site each login belongs to, an attacker gets a ready-made map: which email address, which password, and which website to try it on. That takes almost all the guesswork out of breaking into an account.

What Was Exposed in This Leak

  • Email addresses tied to the compromised accounts
  • Plaintext passwords captured directly from infected devices
  • URLs showing exactly which websites the stolen logins unlock

Why This Matters for Hotmail Users

Because each record links an email, a password, and a specific site, this data is tailor-made for credential stuffing and account takeover. If any of the 87 exposed logins matches a password you still use today, on Hotmail or anywhere else, an attacker can log in as you with almost no effort. Reused passwords are the biggest risk here: the moment one account falls, every other account sharing that password becomes vulnerable too.

How Stealer Logs Work

A stealer log is the output of infostealer malware, a type of malicious software that quietly runs on an infected device and copies saved usernames, passwords, browser cookies, and autofill data before sending it back to the attacker. Criminals then package these logs, sometimes just 87 records like this one, sometimes millions, and sell or share them on Telegram channels and dark web forums where other attackers pick through them for usable credentials.
