What HEROIC Analysts Found

HEROIC analysts identified a stealer log archive labeled "India 8" that surfaced on a Telegram channel on February 7, 2023. The file contained 69,288 individual records, each one pairing an email address with a plaintext password and the URL of the website or service the credentials belonged to. Unlike a breach of a single company, this file is a compilation pulled directly from malware that had already infected victims' devices, meaning the credentials inside span many unrelated websites and accounts.

Why This Is Dangerous

Every password in this file is stored in plaintext, meaning there is no encryption standing between an attacker and the login itself. Anyone who obtains this log can immediately attempt to sign into the paired email address, banking portal, or shopping account listed next to each password, with zero extra effort required to crack or decode anything. Because stealer malware also captures whatever site the victim happened to be logged into, attackers get a ready-made map of exactly which accounts belong to which person.

What Was Exposed

  • Email addresses
  • Plaintext passwords
  • URLs and endpoints tied to each set of credentials

Why This Matters

Most people reuse passwords across multiple sites, so a password stolen from one login attempt can often unlock several others. This is exactly what fuels credential stuffing attacks, where automated tools test leaked email and password combinations against banking, email, and social media platforms until one works. From there, an attacker can pivot into full account takeover, financial fraud, or use the compromised email inbox to reset passwords on even more accounts.

How Stealer Logs Work

Stealer logs come from malware that quietly infects a device, often through a pirated download, cracked software, or malicious attachment, and then scrapes saved passwords, autofill data, and browser session details straight out of the victim's browser. The malware bundles everything it finds into a single file and sends it back to whoever controls it, usually through a Telegram bot. From there, logs like this one are shared, traded, or sold in bulk, frequently for free as a way to build reputation in criminal communities before more valuable data is sold privately.

Check If You Are Affected

If you have ever saved a password in your browser or logged into an account on a device that could have been infected, it is worth checking whether your information appears in this or any other leak. HEROIC's free breach scanner searches a database of more than 400 billion leaked records, including stealer log dumps like this one, so you can find out quickly and take action before anyone else does.
