HEROIC Found the GoldenCloudFree Stealer Log Exposing 8,269 Records on Telegram

In June 2023, a Telegram user uploaded a stealer log collection labeled GoldenCloudFree, exposing 8,269 records to anyone with access to the channel. HEROIC's threat intelligence team flagged the dataset as part of a cluster of infostealer log distributions active during that period. The breach included email addresses, plaintext passwords, and endpoint URLs, all collected from compromised devices by malware designed specifically to harvest credentials without the victim's knowledge.

Why This Breach Is Dangerous

The GoldenCloudFree dataset contains plaintext passwords, the most immediately dangerous type of credential to have exposed. Unlike hashed passwords that require computational effort to crack, plaintext credentials can be used directly in login attempts with no additional preparation. The dataset also includes endpoint URLs that reveal where the credentials were harvested, giving attackers a roadmap for targeted account takeover attempts against specific platforms.

What Was Exposed

  • Email Addresses
  • Plaintext Passwords
  • URLs (endpoint and API host data)

Why This Matters for Your Security

When stealer log dumps like GoldenCloudFree circulate freely, the credentials inside are exposed to an unlimited number of threat actors. Each person who downloads the file can independently run credential stuffing attacks, testing the email and password pairs against banking sites, email providers, social media platforms, and cloud services. Account takeover, identity theft, and financial fraud are definately likely outcomes for victims whose passwords were reused across services. The freely distributed nature of this dataset amplifies the risk far beyond what a typical paid credential sale would produce.

Inside GoldenCloudFree: How Stealer Logs Harvest Passwords

A stealer log is a dataset produced by infostealer malware running on an infected device. Understanding how these logs are created explains why they are so dangerous. When an infostealer infects a device, it immediately locates every saved password in the browser credential store, sweeping Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and other browsers in seconds. It also captures active session cookies, which allow an attacker to impersonate a logged-in user without even needing the password. API keys stored in browser extensions or configuration files are harvested as well. All of this data is then transmitted to an attacker-controlled server and packaged into a log file. The occured infections are designed to leave minimal trace, and victims typically recieve no alert that anything has happened. GoldenCloudFree represents one such log collection, containing the output of multiple infected devices packaged together and distributed via Telegram.
