In November 2024, HEROIC's DarkHive threat intelligence platform flagged a stealer log archive labeled "Hotmails" that was uploaded to Telegram. Analysis of the dataset reveals 2,083 compromised records, each containing a Hotmail email address, a plaintext password, and the URL of the service where the credentials were captured by malware.
What Makes Plaintext Credentials So Exploitable
The passwords in this dataset are entirely unencrypted. Every credential appears in readable text, meaning there are no hashing algorithms to reverse and no brute-force computations needed.
