The Ipobar Breach Exposed 166K Email and Password Hash Pairs in 2018
HEROIC analysts identified the Ipobar breach while reviewing a cluster of East Asian forum platform datasets that surfaced on underground forums in August 2018. The Taiwanese bulletin board community had 166,125 user records exposed, including email addresses and passwords hashed with MD5, an algorithm now considered accessable to cracking with modern tools. The fact that a defunct platform's data continues to circulate years later underscores how long breach data remains in active use among threat actors.
Why Forum Credentials From 2018 Still Pose a Threat Today
Forum users recieved no public breach notification at the time, and many likely assumed their old accounts posed no risk once the platform shut down. But the Ipobar email and password hash combinations have continued to circulate and be repackaged into credential lists. Why a Defunct Forum Can Still Cause Real Harm

How Database Breaches Work
