HEROIC analysts identified the LightCloud Logs stealer upload after a Telegram user distributed the file in June 2023. The dataset contains 1,257 records harvested from infected devices, exposing email addresses, plaintext passwords, and the URLs of sites where credentials were captured. The story of how this data was collected and ended up on Telegram is a blueprint for how millions of credentials are stolen every year.

How the LightCloud Logs Stealer Upload Happened

At some point before June 2023, an information stealer malware was deployed on the devices of victims whose credentials appear in this dataset. The malware ran silently, harvesting saved passwords from browsers and capturing the URLs of every site those victims were logged into. Once collection was complete, the data was packaged and sent to the attacker's server. The attacker then bundled the logs and uploaded them to a Telegram channel, where they were distributed under the name LightCloud Logs. From there, the credentials became available to any threat actor who wanted them.

What Was Exposed in the LightCloud Logs Upload

  • Email Addresses
  • Plaintext Passwords
  • URLs (revealing which sites victims were actively using)

Why This Matters for Credential Security

Even a dataset of 1,257 records like LightCloud Logs can cause significant damage when the passwords are plaintext and paired with specific URLs. Attackers do not need volume. They need accuracy. Credential stuffing tools can test these records against banking portals, email providers, and corporate login pages within minutes. Account takeover, financial fraud, and identity theft are all realistic consequences for anyone whose data appears in this upload.

How Stealer Log Malware Operates

Information stealers are distributed through phishing campaigns, fake software updates, and cracked application downloads. Once installed, the malware captures browser-stored credentials, cookies, and autofill entries without any visible sign of infection. The data is structured into a log file and transmitted to the attacker. These logs are often traded or freely shared in Telegram groups and underground forums, completing the chain from victim device to threat actor hands.
