The ListFire Breach Put 153,124 Stolen Email and Password Pairs Online
HEROIC analysts recieved data confirming the ListFire breach, a database exposure that occured in April 2021 exposing 153,124 user records. ListFire, a marketing automation platform based in Mexico, had stored user credentials without adequate protection, leaving email addresses and plaintext passwords accessable to attackers who obtained the database dump. The stolen credentials have been observed circulating in dark web markets since the initial leak date.
Plaintext Passwords Create Zero-Barrier Account Takeover
When a platform stores passwords in plaintext, every attacker who gets the database file immediately holds working login credentials. There is no hashing to crack, no additional processing required. With 153,124 email and password pairs from ListFire now circulating, threat actors can attempt logins across email providers, social media, banking platforms, and any service where victims reused the same password. Credential stuffing attacks make this process partcularly fast and scalable.

Why Marketing Platform Breaches Carry Outsized Risk
Users who registered on marketing and AI tools platforms often reuse passwords from higher-value accounts, beleiving smaller platforms are lower-risk targets. The ListFire breach demonstrates that attackers actively seek out exactly these databases. The exposed credentials can be used for account takeover across unrelated platforms, identity theft, and financial fraud. Any account sharing a password with a ListFire login is now a potential entry point for attackers.
How a Database Breach Works
A database breach occurs when an attacker gains unauthorized access to a server or application database by exploiting software vulnerabilities, weak authentication, or misconfigured access controls. Once inside, records are extracted in bulk. When a platform fails to hash passwords before storage, the stolen data requires no additional cracking steps, making it immediately weaponizable in credential stuffing campaigns.
