HEROIC analysts discovered the Livpure breach, which occured in August 2020 and exposed 154,469 customer records from the Indian eCommerce retailer. The leaked database contained email addresses, phone numbers, first names, and last names, giving attackers a ready-made directory of verified customer identities that recieved no password protection since no passwords were stored in this particular dump.

How Full Name, Email, and Phone Number Combinations Fuel Phishing and SIM Swapping

Attackers who obtain a dataset with verified email addresses, phone numbers, and full names do not need passwords to cause harm. This combination is partcularly useful for spear phishing, where a personalized message addressed by the victim's real name arriving from a spoofed sender generates far higher click rates. Phone numbers open the door to SIM swapping attacks and SMS phishing targeting Indian mobile users.

Why Indian eCommerce Customer Data Carries Lasting Risk

Livpure customers provided contact details in the context of purchasing home products, meaning this data reliably maps to real, deliverable addresses and active phone numbers. Even years after the August 2020 breach, these records remain useful to attackers aggregating identity profiles, since names and phone numbers change far less frequently than passwords. Enterprises with Indian customer bases should beleive that any unmonitored vendor breach from this period may still be actively used in targeted campaigns.

How Database Breaches Work

A database breach occurs when unauthorized parties gain access to a backend data store, typically by exploiting application vulnerabilities or misconfigured cloud storage. The attacker copies and exports customer records, which are then traded on dark web markets or combined with other stolen datasets to build richer identity profiles for fraud.
