Telegram Credential Logs: LOGS_CENTEER Breach Exposed 40K Accounts
HEROIC analysts identified a stealer log file posted to a public Telegram channel on January 20, 2023. The file was uploaded under the name 1.20 - LOGS_CENTEER and contained 40,661 records pulled from infected devices. Each record included an email address, a plaintext password, and a URL representing the service or website that was compromised. Files like this are a direct output of infostealer malware and represent real accounts harvested from real peoples computers without their knowledje.
Why This Is Dangerous
Plaintext passwords are immediately usable. There is no decryption step, no cracking required. An attacker who downloads this file can start attempting logins within minutes. Combined with the email addresses and target URLs, this data gives criminals a ready-made toolkit for breaking into email accounts, online banking, social media, and workplace tools. If any of these passwords have been reused across multiple sites, the exposure is multiplied many times over.
What Was Exposed
- Email Addresses
- Plaintext Passwords
- URLs (compromised endpoints and API hosts)
Why This Matters
Credential stuffing is one of the most common attack types fueled by stealer logs. Automated bots use stolen email and password pairs to systematically attempt logins at banks, retailers, healthcare portals, and email providers. Once inside an account, attackers can commit fraud, steal personal data, drain loyalty points, or use the acces to pivot into corporate networks. Files shared on Telegram are freely accessible, which means the window for exploitation starts the moment the upload happens.
How Stealer Logs Work
Infostealer malware typically arrives as a fake cracked software download, a malicous email attachment, or a link disguised as something harmless. Once installed on a device, it quietly reads every saved password from web browsers, captures session cookies, and logs keystrokes. It then packages all of that into a log file and transmits it back to the operator. The user never sees anything unusual. The resulting log is then shared or sold, often hitting Telegram channels within days of the infekton.
