21,675 Plaintext Passwords From the LOGS_CENTER 3 Dump Surfaced on Telegram
HEROIC analysts identified the LOGS_CENTER 3 stealer log file on July 5th, 2023, after an anonymous user uploaded it to a public Telegram channel. The dataset contained 21,675 records collected from infected endpoints, with each entry including an email address, a plaintext password, and a URL associated with a login page or API host. The data represents real credentials silently harvested from individual devices by infostealer malware and then distributed freely to anyone monitoring the channel.
Why This Is Dangerous
Stealer log data is among the most immediately usable type of stolen information because the passwords are stored in plain text with no encryption to overcome. A bad actor who obtained the LOGS_CENTER 3 file could begin testing its 21,675 login pairs against real websites within minutes. Because the dataset also includes the URLs where credentials were captured, attackers already know which services to target first. Password reuse is common, so each compromised record can potentially unlock multiple accounts across different platforms.
What Was Exposed
- Email Addresses
- Plaintext Passwords
- URLs (login pages and API hosts)
Why This Matters
Plaintext passwords combined with email addresses are the building blocks of credential stuffing, account takeover, and identity theft. Once an attacker gets into one account, they can pivot to others by requesting password resets to the compromised email address. Financial fraud becomes possible when banking or payment accounts are involved. Even accounts that seem low value, like streaming services or old forums, can be monetized or used to harvest additional persaonal information through saved payment methods, addresses, and linked profiles.
How Stealer Logs Work
Infostealer malware is one of the most common tools used by cybercriminals today because it is relatively simple to deploy and highly effective at gathering credentials without the user knowing. The malware is typically distributed through fake software installers, cracked games, phishing emails, or malicious browser extensions. After installation, it scans the system for saved browser passwords, autofill entries, active session cookies, and recent browsing history. Everything collected is bundled into a log file and transmitted to the attacker's infrastructure, then sold, traded, or shared on platforms like Telegram where it can be accsessed by numerous bad actors almost instantly.
