A Small But Real Stealer Log Leak

HEROIC analysts identified a stealer log file named "MAIL ACCESS _1" posted to a Telegram channel on November 10, 2024. The dataset is small, containing 97 records, each pairing an email address with a plaintext password and the web address the login was captured from. Small stealer logs like this one are common: not every malware infection produces a massive haul, but even a short list can put real people at risk.

Why This Is Dangerous

With only 97 entries, this is not a mass-scale breach, but each of those 97 people has a working email and password sitting in plaintext for anyone to use. Because the passwords were not hashed or encrypted, there is no technical barrier stopping someone from trying each login immediately. A small list can still be enough for a targeted attacker looking for a specific person or a criminal simply working through every entry one by one.

What Was Exposed

  • Email addresses
  • Plaintext passwords
  • URLs tied to each login

Why This Matters

Scale is not the only measure of risk. If any of the 97 people in this file reused their password on other accounts, banking, shopping, or social media logins tied to the same email could be exposed to credential stuffing. A single exposed email and password pair is often the first domino in a broader account takeover.

How Stealer Logs Work

Stealer logs get their name from information-stealing malware, small programs that infect a device, usually through a phishing email, a cracked software download, or a malicious link, and then quietly copy saved browser passwords and autofill data. The stolen data is sent back to whoever operates the malware, who may keep it, sell it, or share it in bulk on channels like Telegram. Logs vary widely in size: some contain hundreds of thousands of entries pulled from many infected machines, while others, like this one, come from a single small batch.

Check If You Are Affected

Even a small leak is worth checking. HEROIC's free breach scanner searches a database of more than 400 billion breached records, including stealer logs of every size, so you can find out in seconds whether your email address has been exposed.
