Records Exposed 41,676
Source Type Stealer log
Origin Telegram
Password Type plaintext

In October 2023, security researchers discovered a large stealer log file being shared on Telegram. The file, identified as MARVEL_CLOUD, contained 41,676 records of data pulled from compromised devices. Each record included an email address, a plaintext password, and a URL tied to a site or service the victim had been using. The scale of this particular log is significant. Over forty thousand people had credentials harvested from their machines by malware running silently in the background, and that data ended up freely accessible to anyone following the right Telegram channels.

Why This Is Dangerous

With 41,676 sets of working credentials available in plaintext, attackers have an enormous pool to work from. They can run automated tools that test these exact email and password combinations against popular websites like Gmail, Netflix, bank portals, and retail accounts. Because password reuse is so common, a single compromised device can expose a persons entire digital life. The URLs in the data narrow the attack surface further by telling criminals exactly which platforms the victim was actively using. Logs of this size are also sold in bulk on dark web markets, meaning the data may pass through many criminal hands.

What Was Exposed in the MARVEL_CLOUD Stealer Log

  • Email addresses
  • Plaintext passwords (unencrypted, immediately actionable)
  • URLs connected to accounts and services the victims accessed

Why This Matters

The sheer volume of records in the MARVEL_CLOUD dump makes it a high value asset for criminals running credential stuffing campains. When attackers gain access to an email account, they can trigger password resets on every other service tied to that address, effectivley taking over a persons entire online presence. Identity theft, unauthorised purchases, and fraud are all realistic outcomes. Because this data was shared openly on Telegram, it is likely that many actors downloaded and used it before researchers even became aware of its existance.

How Stealer Logs Work

Infostealer malware infects computers through phishing messages, pirated software, or compromised websites. Once active, it silently monitors everything the user types, capturing usernames and passwords as they are entered. It also records the web addresses being visited and can harvest stored browser credentials and session cookies. The collected data is bundled into a log file and sent automatically to the attacker. That attacker can then use the data themselves or distribute it publicly, as happened here. The infected user typically sees no sign that anything is wrong.
