Records Exposed 5,230
Source Type Stealer log
Origin United States
Password Type plaintext

In March 2023, HEROIC analysts identified a stealer log file uploaded to Telegram that exposed 5,230 records from compromised endpoints. The data, attributed to a Telegram user operating under the MARVEL_PRIME 04.03 3 collection, contained email addresses, plaintext passwords, and the URLs of the infected machines or services. This type of exposure is the direct result of malware silently harvesting credentials from victims before exfiltrating the data to threat actor-controlled channels.

Why This Is Dangerous

Stealer log data is immediately actionable for attackers. Unlike hashed password dumps, these credentials are in plaintext, meaning no cracking is required. With email-and-password pairs in hand, threat actors can log into banking portals, email accounts, corporate VPNs, and any other service where the victim reused those credentials. The inclusion of URLs reveals exactly which sites and services were active on the victim's machine, giving attackers a precise roadmap for targeted account takeover.

What Was Exposed

  • Email addresses
  • Plaintext passwords
  • URLs (service and endpoint locations)

Why This Matters

Stealer log credentials fuel a cascade of downstream attacks. Once a threat actor confirms a working login, they can pivot to credential stuffing attacks against dozens of other platforms, exploit saved payment methods, intercept two-factor authentication codes, and sell verified account access on dark web marketplaces. Victims rarely know their credentials were stolen until fraudulent transactions or unauthorized logins appear. The combination of email, password, and URL data makes every record in this dataset a fully packaged attack kit.

How Stealer Log Breaches Work

Stealer logs are produced by a category of malware known as information stealers, or infostealers. These programs are typically distributed through phishing emails, malicious downloads, cracked software, or compromised websites. Once installed on a victim's device, the malware silently collects stored credentials from browsers, email clients, and applications. It captures active session cookies, saved passwords, and visited URLs before packaging the data into a log file and transmitting it to the attacker. These logs are then sold or shared on Telegram channels and dark web forums, often bundled into large collections like the MARVEL_PRIME series.
