Hotmail Users Targeted in the MegaCloud 11.12 Combolist Leak

HEROIC analysts uncovered a combolist titled "2.6K Fresh Hotmail HITS By MegaCloud 11.12" that was uploaded by a Telegram user on 11 December 2024. The file contains 2,633 records of email addresses and plaintext passwords, along with associated URLs, all tied to Hotmail accounts in the United States.

Why This Is Dangerous

Because the passwords in this list are stored in plaintext, no cracking is needed before an attacker can use them. Anyone who acquires this file can attempt to log into thousands of Hotmail inboxes right away, and from there reset passwords on connected accounts, read private messages, or impersonate victims to scam their contacts.

What Was Exposed

  • Email Addresses
  • Plaintext Passwords
  • URLs

Why This Matters

Webmail accounts are often the key that unlocks everything else, since they are used to reset passwords on banking, shopping, and social media accounts. A leak of this size feeds directly into credential stuffing campaigns, where attackers automatically test these email and password pairs across other websites, leading to account takeover, identity theft, and financial fraud far beyond the original Hotmail accounts.

How Combolists Work

A combolist pairs stolen usernames or emails with their matching passwords into a single file that criminals can feed straight into automated login tools. Sellers on Telegram often label these lists as "fresh" to signal the credentials are recently harvested and more likely to still work, which is exactly why a 2,633-record combolist like this one holds real value on dark web marketplaces.
