HEROIC analysts linked a stealer log upload on November 4, 2023, to the MOONLOGSFREE distribution channel on Telegram. This particular batch consisted of 33 individual log files containing 1,053 records with plaintext passwords, email addresses, and associated URLs. While smaller than some other MOONLOGSFREE releases, the concentrated nature of this upload suggests a targeted infection campaign against a specific set of devices or users rather than opportunistic mass collection.

Why This Is Dangerous

Every record in this breach contains a ready-to-use login credential -- no password cracking required. Attackers can take the email and plaintext password from each entry and attempt immediate logins across banking, e-commerce, and email platforms. The URLs included in the log files reveal exactly which services the credentials belong to, giving attackers a direct roadmap. Because these logs are shared publicly on Telegram, the threat is not limited to one criminal -- anyone who downloads the file can use the data. Victims can have their accounts accessed before they recieve any notification that something is wrong.

What Was Exposed

  • Email Addresses
  • Plaintext Passwords
  • URLs (associated login endpoints)

Why This Matters

Even at 1,053 records, a breach like this carries significant real-world consequences. Each exposed credential is a potential entry point for account takeover, identity theft, or financial fraud. Criminals use automated tools to run credential stuffing campaigns, testing stolen logins across dozens of platforms in minutes. When users have reused the same password across seperate services -- which research shows a majority of people do -- one stolen credential can compromise banking, shopping, and personal email accounts simultaneously. The downstream damage often far exceeds what the original record count suggests.

How Stealer Logs Work

Infostealer malware spreads primarily through phishing emails and malicious software downloads. Once installed, it scans a device for saved passwords stored in browsers like Chrome or Edge, session cookies, and autofill data. It then exports this information as a structured log file and transmits it silently to the attacker's infrastructure. These log files are bundled into collections -- like this 33-file MOONLOGSFREE batch -- and distributed through Telegram channels where they are downloaded and used by other threat actors. The entire process from initial infection to credential distribution can occured within a single day, leaving little time for detection or response.
