HEROIC's threat intelligence team discovered a stealer log collection uploaded to Telegram on November 7, 2023. The dump, known as MOONLOGSFREE, contained 495 log files holding 6,771 records. The data was posted by an anonymous Telegram user and included not just usernames and passwords, but also API host addresses and specific URLs -- details that give attackers a direct map into backend systems. HEROIC analysts verified the breach and confirmed the passwords were stored in plaintext, making every record immediatly usable for an attack.

Why This Is Dangerous

Stealer logs are different from typical data breaches. Instead of exploiting a single company's database, stealer malware infects individual devices and harvests everything saved in browsers, apps, and system memory. That means one infected machine can expose credentials for dozens of services at once. The MOONLOGSFREE dump is dangerous because it includes API host data alongside passwords -- giving attackers the keys and the door at the same time. Credentials in plaintext require zero additional effort to use, and sharing them on Telegram means thousands of threat actors can download and exploit them within hours of posting.

What Was Exposed

  • Email addresses
  • Plaintext passwords
  • URLs (targeted web endpoints)
  • API host information

Why This Matters

The inclusion of API host data is what seperate this dump from a routine credential leak. Attackers who combine a valid email, a plaintext password, and the specific API endpoint for a service can bypass login portals entirely and hit backend systems directly. This type of access is especially damaging for businesses, where a single compromised developer or employee account can expose internal infrastructure. The 6,771 records in this dump represent real people and real organizations -- and because the data was freely shared on Telegram, it has likely been downloaded and tested many times over since November 2023.

How Stealer Logs Work

Stealer malware typically arrives through phishing emails, cracked software downloads, or malicious browser extensions. Once installed on a device, it silently scans saved passwords in Chrome, Firefox, and other browsers, captures autofill data, and records session cookies. All of this information is packaged into a log file and sent to an attacker-controlled server or Telegram channel. The victim rarely notices anything has occured. These logs are then sold or freely distributed, creating a long tail of exposure that can last years after the original infection.
