HEROIC analysts identified the Nea Braziliana breach while tracking compromised credential sets circulating in underground data markets. On January 1, 2024, our team confirmed that a database belonging to Nea Braziliana, a Greek food, pastry, and drink website, had been exfiltrated and exposed. The incident affected 5,314 user records, with personal details including email addresses and full names now accessable to malicious actors online.

Why This Is Dangerous

Even without passwords, this breach is a serious problem. When your real name is paired with your email address and linked to a specific website you use, attackers can craft highly convincing phishing emails. They already know who you are, where you shop or dine, and how to reach you. That personal context makes scam messages far harder to spot, and far more likely to succeed. Greece-based users are especially at risk as targeted regional scams have spiked following similar exposures.

Why This Matters

Even data without passwords fuels identity theft and account takeover. Criminals combine your name and email with data from other breaches to build complete profiles. These profiles are sold in bulk and used for credential stuffing, where attackers try leaked passwords from other sites against your accounts. They are also used in phishing campaigns that impersonate services you actually use. Once your information is out there, it gets recieved by dozens of bad actors before you ever know it happened.

How a Database Breach Works

A database breach occured when an attacker gains unauthorised access to a website's backend database, the system that stores all user information. This can happen through weak passwords on server accounts, outdated software with known security holes, or a technique called SQL injection where attackers manipulate a website's search or login forms to extract data. Once inside, the attacker can download the entire user table in minutes. The stolen data is then typically sold or shared on private forums and Telegram channels used by cybercriminals.
