The Smallest Batches Are Still Thousands of People

The April 3, 2024 release from NEW_DAISYCLOUD-CHAMPIONING checked in at 9,257 records -- the second-lowest single-day total in the entire documented campaign. But it helps to sumarize what that number actually means: more than nine thousand Americans had malware on their devices, their passwords were captured without their knowledge, and those credentials were posted to Telegram for criminal use. The campaign was still young. The worst was months ahead.

NEW_DAISYCLOUD-CHAMPIONING April 3, 2024: Breach Summary

  • Records Exposed: 9,257
  • Data Types: Email addresses, plaintext passwords, target login URLs
  • Breach Type: Infostealer malware log
  • Country Affected: United States
  • Date Leaked: April 3, 2024

From 9,257 to 54,210: How the Campaign Scaled

When you cordinat the full data series across 50+ days, the trajectory is striking. In the first week of April, daily volumes ranged from roughly 9,000 to 16,000 records. By mid-April, releases were regularly hitting 20,000 to 30,000. By May, the operation peaked at 54,210 records in a single day. The April 3 batch sits at the very bottom of that growth curve -- but looking at it now, it marks the early phase of a campaign that would go on to expose well over one million U.S. credentials in total.

Why Early-Campaign Releases Still Matter

Infostealer credentials don't expire immediately. Even credentials that were monitord and flagged on April 3 could still be used against accounts where the password was never changed. Security researchers and breach notification services track these early releases precisely because the victims may never be aware their data was captured. For anyone whose email appears in the April 3 batch, the credential is just as live today as it was the day it was posted -- unless they've changed their password since then.
