The Norwegian Cruise Line Breach Contains Exactly 31,872 Travel Agent Email and Password Pairs
HEROIC analysts recieved intelligence on the Norwegian Cruise Line dataset while reviewing a batch of older breach packages being traded on dark web forums in late 2024. The breach occured in August 2018 and targeted NCL's European travel-agent portal, a regional platform primarily used by German travel agents to manage bookings and client accounts. The exposed data covered 31,872 records containing email addresses and MD5 password hashes, a hashing algorithm that has been considered cryptographically weak for well over a decade.
How Travel Agent Credentials Expose Client Booking Data and Payment Details
Travel agent portal accounts are not ordinary consumer accounts. Agents who accessable the Norwegian Cruise Line portal manage booking records, passenger manifests, and in some cases payment and commission data on behalf of clients. How a Database Breach Works
