HEROIC analysts uncovered a stealer log file uploaded to a public Telegram channel on December 19, 2022, identified as NOVEMBER 23 - 2842 LOGS. The file contained 47,712 records pulled directly from infected endpoints, each one pairing an email adress with a plaintext password and the URL of the site where that password was used. This is not a theoretical risk. The data was openly shared and immediately usable by anyone who downloaded it.

Why This Is Dangerous

47,712 records means 47,712 people whose login credentials were handed to strangers on the internet in one file. No hacking required. No decryption required. Every password in this log is in plain text, ready to use. An attacker can open the file, pick any record, and attempt to log into that persons accounts right now. With most people using the same password across several sites, the damage from a single exposed record rarely stops at one account.

What Was Exposed

  • Email Addresses
  • Plaintext Passwords
  • URLs (the exact services and websites the credentials were linked to)

Why This Matters

When 47,712 plaintext credentials hit a public channel, criminals move fast. Automated credential stuffing tools can test thousands of login attempts per minute across banking, email, shopping, and streaming platforms. Victims typically discover the breach only after money disappears, an account gets locked, or someone sends a message pretending to be them. Identity theft, finacial fraud, and account takeover are not abstract possibilities -- they are the documented outcomes for people in files exactly like this one. The fact that this dump is from 2022 does not reduce the risk if the passwords were never changed.

How Stealer Logs Work

Stealer malware enters a computer through phishing emails, fake software installers, browser hijackers, or malvertising. It runs in the background without triggering any visable alert and systematically harvests everything stored in browsers -- saved passwords, cookies, autofill data, and active session tokens. It then compiles all of that into a structured log file and quietly uploads it to the attackers server. Those logs are bundled, given names like NOVEMBER 23 - 2842 LOGS, and distributed on Telegram, dark web forums, or private criminal marketplaces. By the time a victim realizes something is wrong, the data has already circulated widely.

Check If You Are Affected

If your email address was active in late 2022, there is a real chance it appears in a stealer log from that period. Use HEROIC's free Identity Monitor to search your email against over 400 billion exposed records from breaches, stealer logs, and dark web dumps. It takes seconds. If your data shows up, change your passwords immediately and enable two-factor authentication on every account that matters.
