We noticed a significant influx of stealer log data circulating on Telegram in mid-December 2022, prompting immediate investigation. What struck us was the relatively low volume of records (28,085) but the inclusion of plaintext passwords alongside email addresses and associated URLs. This combination, particularly the unencrypted password exposure, presents a direct and immediate risk to user accounts and potentially downstream systems if credentials are reused.
The breach, attributed to a stealer log uploaded by a Telegram user on December 19, 2022, appears to be a consequence of endpoint compromise rather than a direct organizational data exfiltration event. The uploaded file contained 1780 distinct log entries, each potentially representing a compromised endpoint. Within these logs, we identified 28,085 records, comprising email addresses, plaintext passwords, and URLs. The presence of plaintext passwords is the most critical element, as it bypasses typical credential protection mechanisms and directly exposes user authentication details. This threat theme centers on credential harvesting and the subsequent potential for account takeover and lateral movement within interconnected systems.
