Among the thousands of stealer log files circulating on Telegram, one numbered simply "985" contains 5,684 stolen credential records. HEROIC confirmed the file was uploaded in January 2023 and includes email addresses, plaintext passwords, and the URLs of websites where each credential was entered. Though the name is unremarkable, the contents are anything but—each record represents a real person whose credentials were silently stolen by malware.


Plaintext: The Most Exploitable Form a Password Can Take

When passwords leak in plaintext, the damage is immediate. There is no decryption step, no computational hurdle for the attacker. The 5,684 passwords in this dump are as easy to use as reading a list and typing the entries into a login form.
