In June 2026, HEROIC analysts identified a stealer log file uploaded to Telegram containing 9,041 records tied to online.de accounts, a German email and internet service provider. The file included email addresses, plaintext passwords, and the URLs of the login pages those credentials were used on, data lifted directly from infected devices rather than a breach of online.de's own systems.

Why This Is Dangerous

With more than 9,000 email and password pairs in plaintext, an attacker holding this file does not need to guess, crack, or decode anything before trying to log in. The exact login URL attached to each record points straight to the correct sign-in page, so whoever has the file can move from download to attempted account access in a matter of seconds, across thousands of accounts at once.

What Was Exposed

  • Email addresses
  • Plaintext passwords
  • URLs of the associated login pages

Why This Matters

Once an attacker has a working email and password pair, the possibilities extend well beyond reading someone's inbox. They can attempt password resets on other services tied to that email, a step toward broader account takeover, or try the same credentials on banking and shopping sites through credential stuffing in case the password was reused. At this scale, with 9,041 records in a single file, even a modest success rate can translate into a meaningful number of compromised accounts.

How Stealer Logs Work

Stealer logs are the product of malware that infects a device, often through a pirated download, a fake software update, or a malicious attachment, then silently harvests saved browser passwords, autofill data, and active login sessions. Criminals gather these logs from many infected machines and organize them into files sorted by email provider, as this online.de-focused dump appears to be, before circulating or selling them through Telegram channels and dark web marketplaces.

Check If You Are Affected
