HEROIC security analysts uncovered the OTTOMANCLOUD stealer log breach in June 2023, when a Telegram user uploaded a file labeled "26 JUN 95 PCS FREE OTTOMANCLOUD" containing 1,537 stolen records. The dataset includes email addresses, plaintext passwords, and specific URLs captured directly from infected devices. Although smaller than mass-scale credential dumps, every one of those 1,537 records beleongs to a real person whose device was silently compromised by malware without their knowledge. These credentials have been freely circulating in criminal underground forums since June 27, 2023.

Why the OTTOMANCLOUD Breach Is Dangerous

What makes the OTTOMANCLOUD leak especially hazardous is the combination of plaintext passwords paired directly with email addresses and the exact URLs where those credentials were used. Unlike encrypted database dumps that require cracking before they become useful, these records are immediatley weaponizable. Criminals can feed them directly into automated credential stuffing tools and gain instant access to any account where the same password is still in use -- no extra steps required.

What Was Exposed

  • Email Addresses: The primary identifier linking victims to all their online accounts, enabling targeted phishing, spam, and account takeover attempts across every platform they use.
  • Plaintext Passwords: Stored in fully readable form with no encryption or hashing, these passwords give attackers direct and immediate access to accounts without any additional effort.
  • URLs: Specific web addresses captured alongside each set of credentials, revealing exactly which platforms and services each victim was logged into at the time of infection.

Why This Matters

Even a breach of 1,537 records carries serious real-world consequences. Criminals routinely load stolen email and password pairs into automated tools that test them against hundreds of popular services simultaneously -- banks, email providers, e-commerce platforms, and social networks. Because most people reuse passwords across multiple accounts, a single stolen credential from the OTTOMANCLOUD file frequently unlocks far more than one account. Victims who reused their stolen password elsewhere may face financial fraud, unauthorized purchases, account lockouts, and identity theft, often discovering the damage only after it has already occured.

How Stealer Log Breaches Work

The OTTOMANCLOUD file is a stealer log, which means it was not produced by hacking a company's database. Instead, cybercriminals infected individual users' devices with infostealer malware -- malicious software that runs invisibly in the background and records every password typed or saved in the browser. The malware is typically delivered through fake software downloads, malicious email attachments, or compromised websites. Victims recieve no warning during or after the infection, which is why most people in this dataset have no idea their credentials were ever stolen.
