HEROIC analysts found a stealer log dataset shared on Telegram in March 2023 under the label OTTOMANCLOUD, exposing 1,535 records of compromised cloud service credentials. The dataset contained email addresses, plaintext passwords, and URLs targeting cloud infrastructure endpoints in the United States. Cloud-focused stealer logs like this one are particularly valuable to attackers because they provide direct access to hosted environments, storage buckets, and managed services.

Why This Is Dangerous for Cloud Users

Cloud credentials are high-value targets. Unlike personal account credentials, compromised cloud logins often grant access to entire infrastructure environments, including virtual machines, databases, storage, and API gateways. Attackers who obtain these credentials can launch further attacks from within the victim's own cloud environment, run cryptomining workloads at the victim's expense, exfiltrate sensitive data stored in cloud buckets, or establish persistent backdoors that survive password resets.

What Was Exposed

  • Email Addresses
  • Plaintext Passwords
  • URLs (cloud service endpoints and API hosts)

Why This Matters

Cloud credential theft creates risks far beyond a single account. Here is what affected individuals and organizations face:

  • Credential Stuffing: Stolen email and password pairs are tested across dozens of cloud platforms and SaaS tools automatically.
  • Account Takeover: Attackers gain full administrative control of cloud environments, often before the victim notices.
  • Identity Theft: Cloud accounts frequently store billing information, personal documents, and communications that can be used to impersonate victims.
  • Financial Fraud: Attackers can rack up large cloud computing bills by launching resource-intensive workloads under the victim's account.

How Stealer Logs Work

Stealer logs originate from infostealer malware infections. These trojans are typically delivered through phishing emails, fake software downloads, or malicious browser extensions. Once installed on a victim's device, the malware silently extracts saved credentials from browsers, password managers, and application configuration files. Cloud service credentials stored in configuration files or browser autofill are particularly at risk. The harvested data is packaged into log files and distributed through Telegram channels or dark web marketplaces, where other threat actors purchase or download them for use in follow-on attacks.

Check If You Are Affected

If you use cloud services and received any suspicious login alerts around March 2023, your credentials may have been captured and circulated in this dataset. HEROIC's free breach scanner checks your email address against more than 400 billion compromised records, including stealer log databases, to tell you exactly where your data has been exposed. Run a free scan now and take action before attackers do.
