Search Your Email: The OTTOMANCLOUD Dump Exposed 2,678 Accounts on Telegram
On May 7, 2023, a threat actor posted a free stealer log package to Telegram labeled 07 MAY 145PCS FREE OTTOMANCLOUD, exposing 2,678 records. The package was advertised as a free sampler of 145 individual log files, a tactic used to build credibility in cybercriminal communities before selling larger collections. Each record contained an email address, a plaintext password, and the URL of a service the victim had been actively using. The easiest way to know if your account was part of this release is to search your email in a dark web scanner right now, before an attacker does it for you.
Why This Is Dangerous
When threat actors release log packages for free on Telegram, it is rarely out of generosity. Free samples like the OTTOMANCLOUD package are typically used to attract attention, build reputation, and demonstrate the quality of larger paid datasets. This means the 2,678 records in this release represent only a fraction of the total data the actor may possess. Victims of the OTTOMANCLOUD logs could face attacks not only from those who downloaded this free release, but also from buyers of the larger, unpublished collection. Credential stuffing, account takeover, and finantial fraud are all immediate risks once plaintext passwords are in circulation.
What Was Exposed
- Email Addresses - the primary identifier used to log into banking, shopping, social, and work platforms
- Plaintext Passwords - captured in real time from infected devices, requiring no cracking before use by attackers
- URLs - targeted endpoints and web services visited by victims, telling attackers exactly where credentials work
Why This Matters
Even with a relatively small record count, the OTTOMANCLOUD breach carries serious risk. Stealer log credentials are not old or stale data; they were captured in real time from real devices. Attackers can use these email-and-password pairs to attempt logins on banking platforms, email providers, and social networks. Because the URLs in the dataset reveal exactly which services each victim was using, targeted attacks on specific accounts become straightforward. Identity theft and financial fraud can follow quickly once credentials from a dataset like this are put to use by even one of the many actors who may have downloded it.
How Telegram Became a Dark Web Marketplace for Stolen Credentials
Over the past several years, Telegram has emerged as a primary distribution channel for stealer log data, largely replacing older dark web forums. Threat actors create dedicated channels and groups where they post free samples, sell premium packages, and trade tools. The OTTOMANCLOUD release follows a pattern seen across hundreds of similar Telegram-based distributions: a date-stamped, quantity-labeled package posted to attract followers. Because Telegram channels are easy to create and difficult to shut down, this type of distribution occured rapidly and at scale. The data in these packages can recieve hundreds of downloads within hours of posting.
