One Old Database. 12,639 Plastic4You Passwords Still Exposed.

HEROIC analysts identified a database breach affecting Plastic4You, a Russian e-commerce site, dating back to February 23, 2016. The exposed file contains 12,639 records, including email addresses and passwords hashed with MD5.

Why the Plastic4You Leak Is Dangerous

MD5 hashing is considered weak and outdated by modern security standards. Attackers can run freely available cracking tools and precomputed lookup tables against MD5 hashes and recover the original password for a large share of accounts, especially when the password is short or common. Once cracked, the password functions exactly like a stolen plaintext credential.

What Was Exposed in the Plastic4You Breach

• Email addresses
• Passwords (hashed with MD5)

Why This Matters

Even though only two data points were exposed here, email address and password, that pairing is exactly what credential stuffing attacks are built around. Automated tools try the same email and password combination across hundreds of other websites, including email providers and banks, hoping the victim reused it. Anyone who created a Plastic4You account in 2016 and has used that same password anywhere else since should treat that other account as at risk.

How This Database Breach Happened

This breach has the profile of a direct database export, an attacker gaining access to Plastic4You's backend and pulling the email address and password hash fields directly from the user table. Using MD5 to protect those passwords was already an outdated choice by 2016, and it is a large part of why this data remains usable by attackers years after the original compromise.
