HEROIC Detected This Stealer Log in August 2023

In August 2023, HEROIC's threat intelligence systems flagged a stealer log file distributed through Telegram by an anonymous user. The file, identified as "Free logs from - prdscloud 11 162logs uploaded by a Telegram User," contained 2,378 records of compromised endpoint data. Each record included an email address, a plaintext password, and one or more URLs showing which online services the victim had been using at the time of infection. The data was shared freely, with no barrier to access for anyone in the channel.

Why This Exposure Is Dangerous

Stealer logs are uniquely dangerous because they reflect real, active credential use. Unlike breach dumps that may contain outdated passwords, stealer log data is captured at the moment a user is actively authenticated. This means the passwords are almost always current. With 2,378 plaintext credentials and matching URLs in this dataset, attackers have everything they need to attempt account takeovers without any additional reconnaissance. Email providers, banking portals, and corporate logins are all viable targets.

What Was Exposed

Confirmed data types within this stealer log include:

  • Email addresses (used as login identifiers across nearly every online platform)
  • Plaintext passwords (no hashing, no cracking required)
  • URLs (identifies the specific sites and services targeted by the victim's browser sessions)

Why This Matters to You

Stealer log victims rarely recieve direct notification that their data is circulating. The malware harvests credentials silently, and the resulting log files are traded or posted online long after the initial infection. If your email appears in this dataset, any account where you've used the same password is at risk of credential stuffing and account takeover. Identity theft, unauthorized financial transactions, and access to private communications are all seperate consequences that can follow from a single compromised credential pair.

How Stealer Logs Work

Stealer malware typically arrives through phishing emails, cracked software bundles, or malicious browser extensions. Once installed on a victim's device, it extracts saved passwords from browsers like Chrome, Firefox, and Edge, captures session cookies, and records active login credentials. The harvested data is compressed into a log file and transmitted to the attacker's infrastructure. These logs are then sold, traded, or as occured in this case, posted freely to Telegram channels. The entire process leaves minimal traces on the infected machine and may go undetected indefinitely.
