HEROIC analysts identified the RalphstersSpores breach in March 2019, when a database belonging to the U.S.-based online mushroom spore store appeared circulating on hacking forums and Telegram channels. The breach affected 39,061 registered customers, and the data included email addresses along with plaintext passwords. No hashing or encryption was used to protect the passwords, meaning any attacker who recieved this data could immediately log into accounts using the exposed credentials without any additional work. For an e-commerce platform handling customer accounts and purchase history, this represents a serious failure in basic data protection.
